The safety and security of the students at Fairview Elementary School is very important to us. We have a School Resource Officer that travels around the district ensuring the safety of the overall district. We also utilize a system to check the background of any person working with our students and have a camera system continuously monitoring the school. In doing these, and many other things, we hope you and your child will always feel safe during their time at Fairview Elementary.

Deputy Brian Ras
School Resource Officer
“My name is Deputy Brian Ras and I am employed as the School Resource Officer for the Fairview School District. An SRO is a trained, professional law enforcement officer who is assigned to a school district either as a district employee or as a contacted service through a local Police/Sheriff Department. As the name implies, School Resource Officers are a resource to be utilized by many different people and can be called upon for assistance by students, faculty, parents, administrators, community members, other law enforcement agencies, and social services.
A little bit about myself: A native to Erie, I grew up in Millcreek where I attended Grandview Elementary, Walnut Creek Middle School, and then McDowell High School. Throughout this time, I participated in basketball and football. I got to know a lot of great teachers, families, and coaches. After high school, I attended Edinboro University where I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences, as well as played football for Coach Browning and the Fighting Scots! Having graduated, I worked as a T.S.S. through Safe Harbor where I gained some knowledge of the Fairview School District when I was placed in the elementary school for a brief period of time. I was also working in construction and coaching for a local area high school team at this time.
I value the process of building rapport with kids--which is a key component in being able to help and educate them in areas that will help them mature and grow to be successful members of society. I am truly excited and honored to be a member of the Fairview School District team, where I know everyone is held accountable and to high expectations. I look forward to growing with the students, faculty, staff, administration and community to achieve common goals.”
Visitor Check-In System
The Raptor vSoft program was introduced to the Fairview School District at the start of the 2013-2014 school year. This system is designed to register and sign-in visitors to each building. Every visitor who comes to Fairview Elementary School will be required to present a valid photo ID. If you refuse to submit your identification, you will be denied entry into the building. There are no exceptions to this rule.
Since inception, Raptor has identified and alerted officials across the country to more than 10,000 sex offenders entering schools and other organizations where children are present. The system has also been credited with the arrest of numerous absconded sex offenders that have crossed state lines. With this assurance, we feel that our students are protected within our building.
Security Camera System
Over the past year, cameras have been installed through Fairview Elementary School and are regulated on a timely basis. These cameras are purposeful for a number of reasons--the most important being that we can use it as a safety precaution. If you have any questions about the cameras at FES, please contact Dr. Ben Horn, principal.
