Q. What is the length of the student school day?

A. The first bell rings at 8:00 a.m. and students are dismissed at 2:49 p.m.

Q. Can my child walk or ride a bike to school?

A. Absolutely! Just please make sure to review safety procedures when using those means of transportation.

Q. What time is my student's lunch period?

A. The lunch periods have just recently changed. Students now eat lunch as follows:

Grade Five

11:58am-12:28pm

Grade Six

11:11am-11:41am

Grade Seven

12:45pm-1:15pm

Grade Eight

10:24am-10:54am

Q. Are lockers being assigned to each grade level?

A. Yes. At the beginning of the school year, every student is assigned a locker by their Tutorial teacher. It is the student's responsibility to buy a combination lock for his/her locker.

Q. If my child is absent, how do I request homework?


A. One of the easiest and best ways to retrieve homework is through the use of 
Schoology. If your child is going to be absent from school more than one day, please notify our attendance clerk, Mrs. Lavin, to request work assignments. You can reach her by email at lavind@fairviewschools.org, by phone at (814)-474-3126, or fax at (814)-474-1640.

Q. My child must take medication during the school day. What should I do?

A. Please refer to the FMS website, under Nurseor contact Mrs. Szuba, our school nurse, for more information.

Q. Can my child ride a different school bus with another student?

A. If room is available on the bus, YES! Please sign a note stating the date, the bus they are to ride, and whom they are to ride with. The student can then bring the note to the front office to exchange for a bus pass. If necessary, the parent/guardian can also call and verbally give permission for a student bus pass if they speak directly to one of the secretaries. Students are not permitted to make a call home during the school day to make a last minute bus pass request.

Q. Why does my student need a "Student ID"?

A. Student ID's enable students to access their lunch accounts, take out books from the library, and log into the Fairview School District network.

Q. Will there be access to the building during the school day?

A. There will only be access for registered visitors. Please stop and sign in at the office for entry into the building. See Safety and Security tab for more information.

Q. Where should I park when visiting the school?

A. The first five parking spaces outside the school are labeled for visitor parking.

Q. What do I need to bring when visiting the school?

A. In order to obtain entry into the school building, you must present a valid driver's license or photo identification. We will run this through our Raptor System and hold onto your ID until you sign out.

Q. What after-school activities are offered and how do I sign up my student(s)?

A. Apart from Athletics and Extracurricular activities, Exploratories are offered at the beginning of each semester. These activities vary based on student interest levels and the teacher's ability with the subjects. Information regarding the Exploratory offerings will be posted on Schoology. You can also see the Activities and Organizations tab and the Athletics tab for more information.

Q. If my child participates in an after-school activity, is there transportation home?

A. Parents are responsible for transportation for after-school activities.

Q. How can I access important announcements regarding the middle school?

A. There are a number of options in which to do this. You can also watch for weekly emails sent every Monday morning (or the first day of each school week). Telling Tigers daily announcements are posted on Schoology every morning and Tiger Tales are posted on a monthly basis.

Q. What is a detention?

A. Detention is offered as an alternate method of discipline, which allows the student to remain in the classroom and reinforces our belief that homework and appropriate behavior is essential to the learning process. Detention hours vary between lunch detention, one-hour, and two hour detention. Students will be notified in advance if they are to attend detention.
