"Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life." -Pablo Picasso
"The Adopt an Artist program at Fairview Middle School is designed to supplement the arts curriculum of the Fairview School District."
We BELIEVE education in the arts is fundamental to the analytical and creative development of the individual. It fosters creativity, imagination, self-discipline, teamwork, and self-esteem. Furthermore, it enhances the students' ability to fully experience life, while deepening their understanding of culture and history.
Our MISSION is to provide an arts enrichment program that is independent and self-sustaining.
Our GOAL is to expose every student to the artistic process and the
work of accomplished people in the visual, performing, and literary arts."
The Adopt an Artist program brings the arts into each student's life. A volunteer group of parents, teachers, administrators, and community members work together to encourage artistic expression and appreciation in our students.
Our 5th and 6th grade students visit art museums in nearby cities.
There, they see the works of artists they have studied, ranging from Monet and Van Gogh, to Diego Rivera and Picasso.
Our 7th grade students travel to Buffalo to visit Frank Lloyd Wright's Darwin-Martin House and take an architectural tour of the Buffalo Zoo.
Our 8th grade students travel to Cleveland to visit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Around the School: Art is a form of communication, so providing a show-case for artistic works in an important part of the Adopt an Artist program. Toward that end, we have created a gallery-like setting by reframing the school's entire art collection to create unity in the display throughout the building. Our school is filled with fine art created by the masters we study, local artists, and our own talented students. Each year, we frame new student artwork to be added to the collection. Adopt an Artist is also involved in ongoing effort to develop and maintain the Arts Courtyard in the school. This beautiful area serves a variety of functions. It is an open-air classroom, a stage for performance art, and a display setting for visual arts, while also providing our students with an opportunity for horticultural experience. The Arts Courtyard has evolved as a collaborative effort by the school community.
