Fairview Middle School exploratory programs offer students the chance to get involved in an activity in order to develop skills and interests outside of the core academic classes. The administration and teachers at Fairview Middle School believe that students need to step out of their comfort zone and try new activities during these years in order to fulfill their educational opportunities. We believe the exploratory programs support our mission of developing the whole student.
Exploratories are offered during the fall, winter, and spring. The activities are student funded and vary depending on the availability of staff and student involvement. Some examples of past offerings include: Robotics, Clay Workshop, Yoga, Baseball, Fencing, Golf, Fitness Club, Track, Glee, Paintball, Martial Arts, Skill Toys, and Percussion Club.
Some goals of the exploratory programs are:
To foster self-knowledge as students discover their unique abilities, talents, and interests, thus preparing students for adult life
To build students’ intellectual, communication, social, physical, and technological skills
To address topics which students perceive as genuinely important and worth knowing
To provide hands-on experiences that allow students to learn through engagement and interaction
To create new interests and encourage students to explore new ideas
