How has Fairview's cultural landscape evolved over the years? This question was answered by guest speaker, Mrs. Quiggle, in the Erie Experience classes this week. The students heard a presentation about Fairview's development on Monday and then toured the area, including Avonia Beach, on Tuesday. The tour involved identifying historic landmarks, the region's agricultural industry and the communities of today.

Students in AP Spanish and Honors Spanish 6 enjoyed language immersion and a culture lab at Mercyhurst University's Day in World Languages. They tasted tea from around the world, decoded French idiomatic expressions, played jian zi (Chinese Hacky Sack), filled their card of Lotería (Mexican Bingo), created memes in Spanish, wrote their names in Russian, and spoke with native speakers, professors, college students, and Fulbright Scholars. Señor Lowe was even able to enjoy some of his favorite Argentinian mate. Fairview would like to say "Gracias" to the faculty and staff of Mercyhurst University World Languages Department for their service to our students.

Ten FHS students presented their scientific research in the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science event held on Jan 27 at PSU Behrend. Students design and conduct an experiment in an area of their interest. They present their findings to judges who then score five components of the presentation and scientific research against a rubric. Some students have or will participate in this from 7th grade through 12th grade. Besides the regional competition, students can also become eligible for scholarships to various science camps and for college tuition scholarships. Congratulations to Quinn, Yatish, Kashyap, Jared, Jocelyn, Ulyana, Amani, Aditya, Cate, and Anish. Each was awarded 1st place for their regional presentation and all are eligible to attend the State Meet at Penn State in University Park in May 2024.

Kids from 14 local schools took over the Erie Insurance Arena on Thursday, February 1. Students cheered on the Erie Otters during the annual School Day Game. But before the puck dropped, some kids were out on the ice, singing not one, but two, National Anthems. These singers are part of the Fairview Middle School Chorus, kicked off Thursday's match-up by singing the Canadian National Anthem and the Star Spangled Banner , all in front of a crowd of hundreds of school-age hockey fans.
