Congratulations to our 2022 holiday card contest winner, Paislee Leone. Paislee is in Kindergarten at FES. She is pictured here with her Art Teacher, Miss Lybrook and her parents, Vince and Allison. Paislee's card will be shared with all of our District employees and school friends. Great work, Paislee!

In Mrs. Tost’s 7th grade ELA class, students practiced their informative presentations by going from station to station in the Co-lab. They completed tongue twisters to practice enunciation, used the stage to practice body language, and worked on volume and eye contact to prepare for their speeches. The repeated practice and low pressure environment led to some awesome speeches about Jeeps, soccer cleats, TVs, fishing poles, and so many other interesting topics!

Just a reminder to join us on Sunday at noon.

Mrs. Gerber's 6th grade honors math classes spent the week learning about proportional relationships. They worked very hard interpreting word problems and determining how to correctly set-up proportions and solve for missing values. The students enjoyed practicing the skills with puzzles, pixel art activities, and an escape room.

Mrs. Carrara and Miss Stewart's ELA class participated in a book tasting to try out books for our book clubs! Students loved being able to "taste" the books and choose the book they would like to read!

During a field trip to the Tom Ridge Environmental Center, 5th and 6th grade students participated in a Hack-a-Thon and created unique devices.
One group created a device to help stop the spread of infectious diseases in schools that sprays a mist that kills viruses and bad bacteria. This device can be installed on the ceiling and is refillable.
Another Group created a bus safety system. It has 2 plastic screens on every seat that automatically rise to shield students from diseases. It also has a disinfectant that sprays down to clean the system at the end of each route.

Come out and see an amazing show this weekend.

In 8th grade ELA, students recently completed Independent Reading Projects on a novel of their choice. When finished, students demonstrated their learning through a variety of projects. Here are some examples of their work!

Students in Ms. Arnone’s fifth grade math class used their decimal division skills with Skittles and M&M’s. Each student created a table with the amounts of each candy in their package and used their numbers to create and solve a division problem.

On Monday night, the FMS 7th & 8th Grade Robotics Team presented to the Fairview School Board. They are looking forward to their competition in January.

Please join us in welcoming Mrs. Beall to the Middle School Counseling Office! Mrs. Beall will be a long-term substitute School Counselor for the remainder of the 22-23 school year serving students in grades 5-8 with last names starting with A-L. Mrs. Beall can be reached at beallangela@fariviewschools.org. Mrs. Beall will be visiting all of the homerooms this week so students have a chance to meet her during her first week at FMS!

Students in Mrs. Flaherty's math class wrapped up their unit on unit rates with a real-world culminating activity. Students had to create their own lemonade stand, determine what supplies they would need, set price points for their lemonade, and determine commission rates for their employees.

Congrats to the 8th grade girls' basketball team for going undefeated this season. We are all so proud of how hard you worked. Go Tigers!
