
Today in Media Literacy 7, 7th grade students had a guest speaker, Ariana Moyer, from Erie News Now. Ariana helped prepare the class for their upcoming interview project called "Humans of My School." Ariana covered information about interviews, jobs in journalism and answered questions. Then many students got the chance to practice their interview skills on each other in front of Ariana and with Ariana.

This week in 7th grade ELA, students have begun a collaborative project to design a utopia. Each class looked at examples of utopias, considered the large problems in the world, and began redesigning our physical world to eliminate issues. This activity promotes science fiction writing skills by employing scientific, technological, and medical solutions to formulate a perfect society!




On Friday, August 30th, FMS kicked off this year's ROAR program with a school wide pep assembly. Students were reintroduced to the ROAR program and school expectations.

Former FMS 8th grader, Mariya Hoja, won the state Civics Bee competition in Hershey last Friday. She beat fourteen other competitors from around the state and will represent Pennsylvania in the National Civics Bee competition in Washington DC this November. Congratulations Mariya on a job well done! Good luck in November!





Four Fairview Middle School students from 7th and 8th grade competed in the regional Challenge 24 Competition on Thursday, June 6tgh in Edinboro at the IU5. Rayteb Alkhudari, Lennon Cook, and Grace Liu all made it through Rounds 1 and 2, and 7th grader Aaditya Girish competed in the finals earning himself a silver medal!


The Senior Student Council at FMS hosted its last event of the school year on Monday, a Tug-of-War Competition between the 7th and 8th grade homerooms. After a double-elimination bracket, Mrs. Willats' 8th-grade homeroom won the championship. Mrs. Willats' class then faced off against the staff, leading to a teacher victory! All students enjoyed popsicles and celebrating the end of the year with this fun event!






As part of the Celebrate FMS event that took place on Friday, May 31st, the FMS choir performed their Spring Concert featuring music of the 1980s. The 32-member choir gave an energized performance full of music the audience really enjoyed!


Disney+ star of the Percy Jackson series, Walker Scobell, visited Fairview Middle Schoo to talk to students about his experiences as an actor. He shared stories and memorabilia from the Percy Jackson series and also took questions from the audience.











Recently, 5 girls from the 7th grade traveled to Penn State Behrend for the 29th Annual Math Options Career Day. They participated in a variety of hands-on interactive workshops that demonstrated careers and educational opportunities related to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) fields.






Nine students from Fairview Middle School - Jailyn Bull, Jenna Bull, Lennon Cook, Mariya Hoja, Nora Khan, Maha Rallapalli, Sahasra Talla, Logan Thompson, and Shri Veeranki - recently competed at the PJAS State Meet, located at Penn State University. Each student designed and conducted professional experiments, and they presented their findings to a panel of judges. These students performed exceptionally well, earning eight First Awards and one Second Award. Logan Thompson even earned a perfect score. Congratulations to these participants for their impressive projects!




On Wednesday, May 22, 2024 the 5th grade class took part in a school day in support of the Erie SeaWwolves. A group shot was managed before the rain came. Definitely a memorable day!

Some of Mrs. Flaherty's students released 128 healthy rainbow trout fingerlings into Lake Pleasant Tuesday morning. Students also participated in a water quality test and a bio blitz to look for local macro invertebrates and vegetation. All in all it was a great day!










The 8th grade trip to Washington, DC was a huge sucess. Pleae enjoy just a few of the good memories captured over the weekend.








In Mrs. Tost's ELA class, students are learning about Greek or Norse mythology. To better understand the complex stories and characters, students are visualizing their learning! Students have created god/goddess Barbies, structured family trees, designed mythical board games, constructed Greek columns, Norse longboats, and Viking catapults!







Mr. Samples' 7th grade Media Literacy class had their last of six visits/presentations from Erie News Now. All the students asked great questions and got to learn more about interviewing leading into their interview project this week. They got to speak with Anchor Eva Mastromatteo, Assistant News Director Adam Snow, and Director/Photographer Brian.


Mrs. Beachly‘s fifth and seventh grade classes are getting pumped in the fitness room, while using the new exercise bikes that were purchased from Bert’s bike shop. We are very grateful for this addition to our fitness room!



This week, in addition to working hard on the ELA PSSAs, 8th grade ELA students from both Mr. Chevalier & Mrs. Brocious' classes are collaborating to create a research-based documentary. Students are researching museums, monuments, and memorials in Washington, D.C., and using the research to plan and produce documentary videos informing their peers about their chosen topic. Students are loving the chance to collaborate between classes, and are refining their research skills in anticipation of the capstone project research paper!



5th grade gifted had a great time at the KNEX Challenge in Edinboro . There were a lot of schools there! Two rooms had to be open whereas last year only one needed to be open to display our projects. The competition was tough with schools from all of Erie county. We may have not won but we gathered valuable information in order to come back stronger and better next year!





Congratulations to Josh Novakoski, Anthony Jarecki, and Isaac Yochim who were awarded third place for their creation of the Soil Saver at this years 2024 STEM Design Challenge in Edinboro. Students were prompted to identify a problem facing Pennsylvania farmers and develop a prototype using only K'Nex pieces that could mitigate the problem.
