A special thank you to Fairview alum, Brian Gorman, for leading the Waldameer portion and allowing a special ride on the Ravine Flyer II for the class.

For the second round of our Survivor of the Mathematicians competition, students in Mrs. Jones' Honors Geometry classes created engaging presentations to explain their mathematicians' contributions to the mathematics field. Some of the groups created their own games based off of their mathematician, including a Hypatia themed Clue game to uncover how Hypatia died; a game of Float or Sink? based off of Archimedes buoyancy principal; and a game of 2 Truths and a Fib(onacci) to learn fun facts about Fibonacci.

Sports analytics is one of the fastest-growing job segments in Big Data, having grown by 27% over the last decade, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Mrs. Kloecker started a new course at FHS this year called Data Science with Sports. Students began the class by completing a Coding Bootcamp to review important coding skills learned in previous computer science classes. Students have spent the past few weeks learning important skills in statistics, Python programming, coding with Pandas, and using programming to analyze large amounts of data. Most recently, students used their skills to analyze the player statistics of the 23-24 NCAAW Women's Basketball Champions, the South Carolina Gamecocks. We are excited to see our students learning real-world skills!

Although food waste is a huge environmental problem, you are still able to help out and do your part to help prevent food waste from becoming an even bigger problem. From Ms. Turner's 9th grade science class....You can help by only buying or taking what you are going to eat. You can also organize your pantry according to the expiration date, so you know what you have to finish first so it doesn’t go to waste. If you have leftovers, finish them before you cook something new. An extra measure you can take is that you can have a composting bin in your house individually, so instead of throwing food away, you will be able to return nutrients to the soil.
