Mrs. Nies's 9th grade social studies course recently finished a project on early inventions of the 20th century, following their unit of study on the US Industrial Revolution post Civil War.

Pre-AP Chemistry students produced brass-plated Lincoln cents while investigating the nuanced differences between chemical and physical changes.
Students in Mrs. Nies's and Mrs. McManus's senior English classes heard a presentation from Keith Knauff from PA CareerLink this week. Mr. Knauff's presentation provided the students with future career planning, resume assistance and connections to local businesses.
Students from Fairview, including high school students Casey Bolla, Julia Burford, and Ellery Nornhold, attended the "Ship to Shore" Program conducted by the Regional Science Consortium. They sailed on the converted fishing vessel the Lettie G. Howard, drew aquatic samples from the bay, learned about the physics behind shipbuilding and used these principles to create their own vessel prototype.
Students in Mrs. Iapalucci's Creative Writing classes began a poetry unit by working in groups to create spine poems using their independent reading books!

Mr. Barbour’s AP Research class spent the day at the PennWest Edinboro Baron-Forness Library. They accessed the library’s digital research collection and checked out books. They also got the chance to speak with AP Research students from Northwestern and General McLane about their respective research questions. It was a very productive day!
The AP Physics students use a dot timer to analyze the motion of a walking person. In the second lab they used the dot timer to determine the velocity of a falling object with respect time in order to use the appropriate graph procedures to calculate the gravity at Fairview high school!
The FHS World Language Department would like to say bienvenido, bienvenue and welcome to our new Spanish teacher David Segoviano. Raised in Mexico City, educated right here in Pennsylvania and after 10 years of teaching at Seneca High School, Mr. S brings invaluable experience that will greatly benefit our language program.

Gabe earned the highest possible ACT composite score of 36. This achievement on the ACT is significant and rare. Less than one-quarter of 1% of the 1.39 million students who took the ACT in 2023 received a perfect score.

Congratulations to Hannah Nichols for being named a Semifinalist in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program. Hannah is one of more than 16,000 Semifinalists in the 70th Annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 6,870 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $26 million that will be offered next spring.

Students in Ms. Nelson’s 9th grade American Studies course practice geography skills using various modalities: physical maps, online quiz tools, audio songs, and kinesthetic tactual puzzles. Mrs. Fox sang with us too and joined the conversation where we reflected on how our brains learn.

Miss Miele’s AP English Language and Composition students created engaging presentations to demonstrate their understanding of the content and rhetorical strategies used in their summer reading book, Malcolm Gladwell’s Outliers. Their presentations displayed strong analysis skills!
On Friday, teachers were welcomed back to school by some of our students, band and cheerleaders. It was a great day!

The Fairview School District is holding open sessions for anyone who needs support this week. Please join us at FHS today from 6-8 PM or 1-3 PM tomorrow. Therapy dogs will be present at both sessions.
The district will provide support for our students, teachers, and families on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, and Thursday, June 20, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Fairview High School’s Chill Room. On Wednesday, June 19, 2024, there will be an additional support session from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Fairview High School’s Chill Room. These sessions are open to all students and staff.
